Friday Fan Fic Rec

Summary: When the man who’s supposed to love them hurts them, and the people who are supposed to save them won't listen, it falls on their shoulders to not just survive, but save each other.

I don't remember how I found 'We Don't Break, We Bend' but I thank my lucky stars I did. This isn't your typical fic where Bella and Edward fall in love. It's a story of three teenagers growing up in an abusive home and despite they fact they never know when they're guardian James will explode, they still manage to create a family.

Social outcasts Jasper, Edward and Bella learned to depend on each other and everyday they survive means its one day closer to the freedom they long for. When Jasper meets Alice he has to learn to hide his wounds from not only her but from the Cullen clan.

LyricalKris managed to create a dark and real situation where you're captivated from the opening paragraph and you don't stop until you've read every chatper. Like most fics each chapter begins with song lyrics, and when Lyrical used 'Bent' by matchbox Twenty I knew this fic owned me. When I use to listen to that song I constantly thought of romantic relationships gone wrong and letting the new person you're not all there. But I saw 'Bent' in a whole new light after reading this fic, no matter how many times they were beaten, they always found a way to put themselves back together.

I simply found each character had some form of bravery and they held each other together when life was getting worst. Its the only way I know how to explain it. Please check out this fic!

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Oh hi. Been awhile, yeah? I'd apologize but we both know it's not likely to be the last time I am fail. I will do penance with two amazing new recs though.

When the Words Scream by LaraIsAwkward
RATED: M for dark themes, adult situations, some serious freaky stuff and hopefully lemons.
::FF.net:: ::Twilighted::

Summary: What happens when the mind lies and you can no longer trust the world as you see it? If your perceptions are false, how can you know anything to be true? Bella Swan's life is a nightmare; a nightmare calling itself "Alice". AH, OOC, Mature Themes

One word: miiiiiindfuck.

The prologue is gripping and just downright creepy - and for a psych nerd such as myself, fascinating and a wee bit fist-pump inducing. Bella has obviously had some sort of mental break, her hallucinations coming in the form of Alice.

And you guys? That little girl is FREAKY.

She's horribly evil, and we really haven't even begun to see the depth of her malice. We know she's not real, but when everything about her is tangible how is Bella supposed to hold onto logical when all her senses tell her otherwise?

The first chapter shows Bella before the breakdown, at a swim meet. We are introduced to Edward who is jesus christ, just so hot. HE'S A SWIMMER Y'ALL. I have a thing for swimmers. I call him Speedoward, even though he doesn't technically wear a speedo. (I have recently learned this squicks some people out. Do not think about the fat slobs you see on the beach, you guys. Think lean muscle, a body built like a bullet and an Edward sized peen. OM NOM NOM NOM.) Bella is... Bella. Kind of socially awkward, but an all-around normal girl. She and Edward are best friends, but Lara has done a great job of subtly letting us know there is more beneath the surface - for both of them.

They are both champion swimmers, on the cusp of college and realizing the dream they've worked so hard for... and considering we know what's going to go down with Bella from the prologue, the foreboding is ridiculous. I've had the pleasure of some sneak peeks into the coming chapter, and believe me when I say your mind? It will be fucked.

On top of all of that, it's extremely well written. Lara has crafted the intensity of each scene perfectly - the psychological terror and helplessness in the prologue, the anticipation and excitement of the swim meet in the first chapter. I can tell this is going to be a fascinating and beautiful ride - in a really creepy kind of way.

Stranger Than Fiction by MasenVixen
RATED: M for adult situations, language and sexual content. (yay!)
::FF.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Twilighted Forums::

Summary: Six years after Edward left, Bella's written a bestselling book about a girl and the vampire who loves her. Edward returns to her, hell-bent on recapturing the happily ever after that he destroyed. AU. Rated M for lemons.

You know what's really cool about this particular "What if Edward never came back?" fic? It totally makes sense.

Bella's not wasting away in grief. She's moved on with her life and is kicking some serious ass in the literary world. And ok, maybe she's kicking ass because she wrote about her vampire boyfriend and how he broke her heart. And maybe she's not really been able to ever fully get over it or allow herself to get close to anyone - but that's not the point. The point is, she didn't just lay down in the woods and wish for death, she got back on her feet and got some ass. Some seriously good ass if the first chapter is any indication. I gotta respect the hell out of that.

And Edward. Edward is the tortured soul we all know and love. He's exiled himself to Alaska, viciously refusing to even think of Bella - until some random girl comes traipsing along, thinking of all the things he's kept so tightly bound. And he's all... WTF?! How does this chick know our story? And then he figures out Bella wrote a book. And he gets obsessive (of course). He goes to New York when he knows she will be there, and finds her... with another man. BURN. He's sick with jealousy, with anger, with self-loathing. And you know what? Though my guts get a little twisty for him because he's my boo, I'm also fist-pumping for Bella. I love that he gets to see her, seemingly completely happy, in love and removed from him.

Of course, things are not everything they seem, but he doesn't know that.

That's basically where we are right now, and I can't wait for them to come face to face and for the proverbial shit to go down. I have a feeling this Bella won't be having the ridiculous 'epiphany' that allows her to skip glibly off into the Twilight with Edward without any reparations. And I am so down with that.

So... you guys should be reading these. Hop to it, and then let's talk.

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Happy Friday lovelies! I have been slacking on my writing this week, which obviously means I have been excelling at my reading. Hooray! I have two new recs for you, and they are lovely.

With Teeth by TalulaBlue
RATED: M for adult situations, dark themes, language and sexual content.

::Twilighted:: ::Forum::

Summary: Edward is a 27-year-old alcoholic/addict struggling with his recovery. Bella is a 23-year-old who's moved back home after college. This fic chronicles how they meet, fall in love, and struggle with the complexities of their relationship. Not nearly as maudlin as it sounds (I hope).

Rated NC-17 for graphic (and sometimes non-romantic) sex, drug and alcohol use and abuse, profane language, and brief (very brief) suicidal ideation (although NO suicide attempts). No sexual assault, no cutting.

I'm not going to lie to you, the first chapter of this fic is extremely hard to read. Edward hits absolute rock bottom and the way it's described is raw and real and visceral... and beautiful in a really grotesque and horrible way.

If you can make yourself power through the first chapter, the rest is not so bad. Edward is heartbreaking; broken but trying and awkwardly coming to grips with his sobriety. Bella is sweet but also kind of lost; lonely but distant, yet incredibly needy.

She and Edward strike up an awkward friendship, full of stuttering half sentences and shy looks and blushes. It's endearing and twists my heart a little bit. They are attracted to one another, but know it's not the right time in Edward's life to start anything.

As always, the restraint doesn't last long. They've only kissed so far, but let me tell you... that first kiss... it wrecked me a little bit. It was SO real; awkward and uncertain and almost painful until it all burns away under the heat of their need for one another. Absolutely beautiful. My heart was racing.

I know some of the situations in this fic can hit a little too close to home - they certainly did for me - but if you can get past it, it's a truly beautiful story.

Behind the Clouds by EchoesOfTwilight
RATED: M for language and what I hope will be adult situations soon

::FFn:: ::Twilighted:: ::Forum::

Summary: When it's time for the Cullen vampire clan to leave their home in Chicago, an old vision of Alice's dictates their next move. Six years earlier, Edward Masen had been a patient of Carlisle's: young, innocent, broken, and blissfully unaware of the destiny Alice had seen for him.

Now living in Forks, Edward is haunted, depressed, and consumed by unrequited love. A mysterious note turns up in the pages of a book given to him on the worst day of his life, leaving him more confused than ever about his place in the world. When the meaning of the message becomes clear in a single terrifying instant, Edward must make a painful choice in order to secure not only his own fate, but also the lives of the people he can't exist without.

So this story is kind of a mindfuck. It's a really great twist on canon, but just when you think you've got a hold on what's going to happen, Em goes ahead and psychs your mind.

Edward meets Alice and Carlisle when he's a child in the hospital after his parents die in a car wreck. Alice sees that Edward will one day join their family, though she cannot see how or why. Edward moves to Forks to live with his aunt, and the Cullens follow years later, in preparation for the time Alice knows he will be getting ready to join them.

Edward is sad panda. (Most people have named him Hugward, because Jesus does this kid need a hug, but I call him SadSpiceWard. Because I'm strange.) He feels responsible for his parents' death, and the guilt is a crushing weight; his self loathing and depression is very canon. He's also ridiculously in love with Bella, but kind of a nerd and unable to tell her. She is, of course, also ridiculously in love with him, but because he is so shy around her she assumes he barely knows she exists.

Edward's aunt dies, and he feels equally responsible - as though he is a curse to everyone around him; as though his mere presence has somehow orchestrated their deaths. Bella makes the decision to go to him, to comfort him and they become close friends... which obviously leads to them professing their love for one another.

AND THEN Em mindfucks you. Something happens and then OH MY GOD EDWARD IS A VAMPIRE and... I will say no more so I don't ruin it for you.

Both of these fics have me in their grips and I can't wait until they update. I harass EchoesOfTwilight pretty regularly on Twitter because I'm annoying like that, but so far have not been able to track down Ms. TalulaBlue to fangirl and beg her to post on FFn. So if you see her, tell her I'm looking for her.

Until next week, chickens...

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Today's Fic Rec is brought to you by Tammy because she's awesome and I've been traveling and writing and haven't had a chance to read anything new since my last rec.

Master of the Universe by Snowqueens Icedragon
RATED: M for adult themes and sexual content
::FF.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Bella Swan is drafted in to interview the reclusive enigmatic Edward Cullen, multi-millionaire CEO of his company. It's an encounter that will change her life irrevocably, leading her to the darkest realms of desire. MA Adult Themes AH AU

Tammy's rec:

I will admit I started reading this fic because of the title, I was having He-Man flashbacks from my childhood and by the 3rd chapter I realized I made a serious error but I was HOOKED! How did I miss it was about BDSM? Now I’m not one for overly sexual fics due to my wannabe method acting and my overactive imagination, reading those sexual fics are…..tantalizing to say the least. But MotU was different, yes it simulated me to a point I needed a cold shower but it really deals with the emotional side of a D/s relationship and what happens when the Dom wants a girl who simply isn’t sub material and the sub who fights to stay independent but needs to please her Dom….yeah its HOT!! Edward is an enigma, he hates to be touched, needs to be in control at all times... but Bella breaks down his walls in ways he didn’t think possible and even craves more. In between that hotness and the mystery that is Edward Cullen, there’s playful moments between Mr. Cullen and & Ms. Swan via emails that makes you want to hug them both then send them into the play room to have fun.

Well damn. Between Tammy's rec and the gif banner... this just got added to my list.

Enjoy!

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Bella Swan: Zombie Killer by Kristen Nicole
Rated: M for violence, language and - hopefully - future adult situation. *shem*
::FF.net::

Summary: Zombies have taken over the continental United States. Thus sets the backdrop for an epic love story involving a boy, a girl, and her trusty shovel. AU.

Ok, so... most people who know me know I don't do scary. At all. I've never seen any of the Saw movies or Dawn of the Dead or whatever. I spent the majority Zombieland cowering behind my hands (when I wasn't eyefucking the hell out of Woody Harrelson) and I even shielded my eyes when Carlisle stitched Bella up in New Moon.

In short: I am the most epic pussy ever when it comes to scary, gory stuff... really anything involving blood.

But I effing love this fic.

Best characterizations ever. Bella is just... badass. And snarky as hell, making me laugh and/or snort out loud on more occasions than I care to admit. Best version of Jessica Stanley ever, hands down. And Rosalie. Don't even get me started on the fuckawesmeness of Rosalie.

But Edward. Edward is my kryptonite. Nerdtastic, bespectacled and blushing Edward who also isn't afraid to kick some zombie ass. Umm, swoon. That is all.

It is only four chapters at this point but I am hooked. You will be too. Hop to it.

Fourteen by crimsonmarie
Rated: M for language and adult situations
::FF.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Forum::

Summary: High school is brutal. It's even worse when you're not a size two. Worse than that? Having a major crush on the biggest, hottest jerk in high school. Even worse than that? Being paired up with him for a science project.

Wow. This was heartbreaking. It will resonate with everyone who has ever been teased because of their weight, and probably most who haven't.

This is a fantastic portrayal of Bella. She is "overweight" (using quotes there since I don't consider a size 14 overweight), but refuses to give in to societal pressures. She makes no excuses or apologies for her body. She's smart and she's snarky, and on the surface does not let the vicious words of her high school peers bother her.

But inside is a different story.

This is a wonderful story of not only validation for someone who doesn't fit the societal strictures of "beautiful" but also the way one person can completely change your life.

Heartbreaking and beautiful. A must read. It is complete, with the epi and two outtakes to go. Put on your big girl pants and do it.

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Helloooo my loves! So, it's been awhile, yeah? Sorry. Real life and all. However, last weekend I finally had time (read: slacked off on writing and gave up all the updates I am behind on as lost causes) and started something new so I could put a rec together for you guys.

Hooray!

Emancipation Proclamation by Kharazzmatik
RATED: M for dark themes, sexual situations and language

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Edward grew up in a life of money, power, & respect. Isabella was born into slavery-has never known another way. Their worlds collide & neither will ever be the same again. Will he give her freedom? Can he bear to ever let her go? AU-H OOC *Set in 2005*

I feel kind of silly even doing this rec. I'm sure everyone in the world has already read this, and I am obviously super late to the party... but the thought of starting this fic was a little daunting, considering it already had 52 chapters. However, I'd heard good things about it, so I figured I'd give it a shot and see how long it took me. I ended up reading the entire fic in about four days, beginning each evening when my son went to bed at 9pm and staying up until 5am reading. Yeah. I guess you could say I'm... dedicated? Hahaha...

Isabella has never known anything but slavery; she is withdrawn and reserved, living in constant fear of punishment from her master, Charlie and his wife, Jane. Her life is, quite literally, hell... but it is the only life she has ever known. She harbors no fantasy of change or rescue - she simply survives... until she is sold to Carlisle Cullen, a known member of the mafia, and her entire world changes.

From the start, Carlisle does not treat her as she expects. He is almost warm and kind, treating her with more respect than she has ever known. He assures her that, while she is his slave and she should never forget her role, he wants her to have as normal of an existence as possible. He encourages her to get to know his family and become comfortable in his household.

Edward, Carlisle's youngest son, is... well, he's an ass. Let's just call it like it is. He fucks girls for the sport of it, disrespects pretty much everyone he comes across and thinks he's the shit. However successful he is in portraying that persona, it soon becomes clear that it is merely a facade, a coping mechanism he uses to hide the pain that lurks beneath the surface. He bears the guilt and pain of his mother's death, and pushes everyone away in the process.

He and Bella have an immediate connection, though they both fight against it, knowing the obstacles they face. Eventually - as usual - the pull becomes too much and they are no longer able to resist. She is the first girl for whom Edward has ever allowed himself to have deep feelings, and Bella has never been given the freedom - emotionally or physically - to be able to develop any kind of feelings for anyone else. Edward is sweet and patient with her - as patient as a hormonal 17 year old can be anyway... and let me just say, the sweet (and not so sweet) Italian mutterings make me straight up ::thud::

There is danger and intrigue - none of which I will give away in case you are the only other person in the world not reading this - but at the heart of it, there is a sweet love between two people who never thought they'd be capable of finding anything so right. While their pasts have been full of pain, and their road ahead is anything but smooth, they each have the ability to heal the other with their love... if only they can survive what lies ahead.

(That was about as rambly as my reviews. It's really hard to describe this fic as there is so much going on beneath the surface.)

Ink Street by AHelm
RATED: M for adult themes, sexual situations and language

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: From the moment I saw those perfect lips, I wanted him. He would be mine. It was only a matter of time. Slash. OOC. JxE. A continuation from the Tattward & Inkella Contest.

Okay, I know not everyone is into slash... but I'm here to say you should be. Because well... damn. Two hotties getting physical? Yes and please.

Jasper sees Edward walking down the street after getting some ink done, and is immediately attracted. He knows nothing about him, he is just a stranger walking down the street - and yet Jasper's thoughts are consumed with him entirely... until he sees him at a cafe on campus. He approaches him, they get a drink... there's a kiss... and, I die.

Jasper is outwardly cocky and blunt, but there is a depth and a sweetness that lies just beneath the surface. He has a past that hints at hardship and pain, but has a strong relationship with his brother Garrett. Edward is reserved and kind of an ass, but you can tell there is a lot going on under the surface - as there always is with Edward.

As of now (or as far as I'm caught up - damn RL!) they are just on the cusp of getting together, and I know when they do they - and me, for sure - are going to go up in smoke. The UST between them is ridiculous and I just have this curious little feeling that as calm and cool as Edward seems - once he's getting down and dirty with Jasper, he's going to be anything but.

And I. Cannot. Wait.

Unf.

That is all.

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Happy Friday, my lovelies! This week I bring you New Fics - the first of which is from our very our Sister and blogger extraordinaire, Tammy!

Awakening by bbwraven
RATED: M for language and adult themes
::FF.net::

Summary: Rockstar Edward Cullen is going to Forks for much needed R&R with family and friends. He didn't expect to find old flame Bella Swan dealing with an abusive husband. Can he put his bruised ego aside to be there for Bella, risking his heart to her again?

This fic is only two chapters in and already has me hooked. I feel for both of the characters; Edward who is a famous musician, with his band comprised of Emmett, Rose and Alice. His hit song is his mantra, his plea, his prayer.

I'll forget your name
I will erase every memory I have of you.

He pines for Bella, the girl he had once but can never have again. The break in their relationship is still a mystery, but his longing for her is palpable.

Bella is trapped in an abusive marriage; her guilt and sense of obligation keep her tied to a man who can give her only pain. She hasn't seen or heard from Edward since she married and he signed his record deal four years before.

Until she goes to one of his shows in Seattle...

This is Sister Tammy's (haha, I feel like I'm calling her a nun - which is soooo off the mark *wink*) first fic and I am blown away by her writing and the way she already has me emotionally invested in her characters. I can't wait for the next chapters!

My Yes, My No by Lolashoes
RATED: M for mature themes.
::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: On the plane back from Volterra, Edward asks, "Have I hurt you too much?" One Bella says yes; one Bella says no. Parallel stories in alternating chapters explore how these two reactions can influence the reunion and rebuilding of trust after Edward left

Excuse me while I gush profusely over this fic. As the summary mentions, the storyline is a retelling of Bella's response to Edward's question of whether she can forgive him after they are reunited in Italy in New Moon. My Yes, My No explores Bella's two possible answers - her yes, and her no.

It is now three chapters in, and I am as conflicted as Bella at this point. In My No, my heart breaks for both of them - well, I'm a sucker for Edward, so it mostly breaks for him as I fist pump in soul-sister solidarity for a Bella who is able to admit that she is deeply hurt and unsure if she can ever trust Edward again. An articulate Bella who is cognizant of her own self-worth and strong enough to realize a) she does have a choice and b) she was wrong horribly by the one who claimed - and claims - to love her. Not going to lie, I ended that chapter with a twisty stomach and a heavy heart. And maybe some tears.

My Yes follows canon Bella's reactions with a few twists. Her willingness to bury her pain and indulge in Edward's presence is frustrating. Her uncertainty over whether he will leave her again, and her resolve to take what she can get while he is there is maddening. The way she validates herself and assuages her own pain with the physicality that Edward allows is sickeningly heartbreaking. As I told Lola, after that chapter I was ready to have My No back.

Lola has been pretty mum about the ultimate conclusion of the fic, only assuring us that she is an HEA girl. I have my own theories on the matter, but we'll see if they pan out.

It is an angsty journey, but raises so many points about the canon story that I've never thought of before. I found myself thinking "Yes! What about that?!" as I read and wishing the books had even a tenth of the depth Lola infuses into her characters.

Daedalus in Exile by EZRocksAngel
RATED: M for mature themes
::FF.net::

Summary: After leaving Forks, Edward follows a path of weakness and isolation while eventually seeking redemption from the only person who can absolve him. Alternate Universe, B/E

One word: compelling.

I just started this today, but have not been able to stop thinking about it. It's a little bit of an amalgamation between Midnight Sun and New Moon, in my mind. When Edward leaves Forks after encountering Bella for the first time, he never comes back. He is so haunted by his blood lust that his only choice is to exile himself completely. The madness consumes him and he abandons his controlled lifestyle, preying on humans and giving into his baser vampiric instincts.

After five years he is able to rein himself in, adhering once again to the vegetarian way of life - until he encounters Bella in the woods. He is torn between giving into his crushing lust, to take and feed and consume, and his resolve to resist the madness within him. He stalks her through the forest, finally coming to a decision... when he realizes he is not the only one hunting her.

I will leave it at that as I don't want to spoil anything, but needless to say... dun dun duuuuunnnnnn!

I am incredibly intrigued - not only by the storyline itself, but the title. I know a bit about Greek mythology, and I've been mulling over the title since I first got the alert that Angel had a new story. Here's a basic rundown of the Daedalus' symbolism, any theories you want to share with the class?

Hope you guys check out these fics (if you're not already hooked like me).

Until next week...

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Hello, lovelies! How are you? I am on the cusp of a three day weekend and feeling absolutely fabulous about it. I hope to have much time to catch up on the fics I have been sorely neglecting as of late and therefore be able to do my fic recs much more regularly.

Why doesn't my real life recognize the fact that I need to have time for fic? ::shakes head::

PLEASE NOTE: SOME OF THE CONTENT RECOMMENDED HEREIN MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR OUR UNDERAGE READERS. FICS RATED 'M' ARE INTENDED FOR THOSE OVER THE AGE OF 18. PLEASE USE DISCRETION WHEN CLICKING ANY OF THE BELOW LINKS.

Rhapsody by annanabanana
RATED: M for adult themes and sexual content

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: A reclusive, idiosyncratic composer and a beautiful, eclectic dog walker cross paths for six months without ever meeting. What happens when they work up the courage to talk to each other? BxE, AU/AH *Rated M for some mouth trash and lemonade*

Poetry. That's all I have to say about this fic. Anna writes the way music is played; organically, viscerally, soulfully.

Edward is a somewhat reclusive and eccentric musician who develops a fixation on the dog walker he sees three times a week. In true obsessive compulsive fashion, he orchestrates his days to the minute in order to catch brief glimpses of her; never trusting himself to speak or look at her longer than five seconds. (Literally.) He is almost as rigid in his routine as he is in his self-loathing.

Conversely, Bella is what I would describe as a free spirit; taking on odd jobs here and there to get by but never settling down fully into routine. She, too, becomes fixated on Edward and is touched by his music.

It is only five chapters in, but there is such a depth to this story; the characters are real - they are not cookie-cutter caricatures; they are beautifully flawed and intense and Edward especially squeezes the heart in my chest with his passion and self-loathing.

I have not yet read the latest update, but word on the street is it's steamy. There might be an elevator involved. Either way, I am completely on board with ManicWard and Hippiella get down to business.

Where the Road Meets the Sun by miztrezboo
RATED: M for mature themes and sexual content

Summary: When everything turns to dust and falls apart at the seams, the only way out, may be the only way in. The path you know might not be the easiest, but it might also be the only one you need. AH/OOC Dark Themes

You may or may not know this about Boo, but she is slightly anti-canon pairings. And by canon pairings I mean Edward and Bella. So when she told me she was writing an E/B fic I about lost my mind in excitement.

So I moseyed on over to the prologue and BAM! She broke my heart. Angst fest ahoy. Delicious, confusing, cryptic angst. The kind that has you yelling 'what the HELL just happened!' at your monitor and hounding the author relentlessly for an update. (Or maybe that was just me...)

So. It's a little dark and twisty right now. But it is beautifully written; the words at times stark and painful, at others beautifully nostalgic. She is truly a master at weaving together the past and the present, of comparing them side by side, the nuances giving subtle indicators as to why and how things are occurring.

And she's promised me that it will have an HEA. And maybe... possibly... something happening... on a train...

Hmm.

Suddenly the angst doesn't seem so bad.

Please go read these fics, they are wonderful and in my opinion not getting the recognition they deserve. And then come back and let's talk.

Until next week, kids...

WW's Fic Rec Friday

I have two rec's for you lovely people this week. I'm feeling generous, I guess. They are both relatively new to the scene, but have already garnered quite a bit of attention. I hope I can get them some more, as they are a couple of my new favorites.

Making the Cut by ShearEnvy
Rated: M for language and what I hope to be sexual situations in the near future

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: When a small town boy moves to the big city to pursue his dreams of becoming a cop and fate places him in the chair of a sexy, snarky hairstylist whose talent has her in high demand, will it be shear ecstasy or split ends? AH/OOC B/E

At the moment this fic is only one chapter in, but already I am hooked. And for the first time - maybe ever - it's Bella that's hooked me, not Edward. Don't get me wrong, the Edward introduced here is ridiculously hot (and he's a police recruit *swoon*), but it's Bella that really shines for me in this first chapter.

This Bella is stuck in a bad relationship with asshat Jake - pretty standard storyline, but instead of being a whiny, emo doormat about it, ShearEnvy's character is snarky and strong and stands up for herself. HALLELUJAH. She's an in-demand hairstylist who co-owns a salon with Alice and Rosalie. The dynamics between the girls are engaging and true to life, and it is one of my favorite things about this chapter.

Now let's talk Edward, because however much I may love this Bella, we all know that the Edward makes or breaks a story. Verdict: fuckhot. We really don't get to see much of him in this chapter, but what we do is yummy. He's new to town (hmm, Edward moving to Phoenix instead of Bella transplanting to Forks. I see what you did there, ShearEnvy) and just joined the Phoenix PD as a new recruit. The quiet characterizations ShearEnvy weaves through the limited word count allotted him are telling; we know he's confident without being overly cocky... and definitely isn't afraid to make a move.

I can't wait to see what happens between them as we move forward with the characters.

I Get Off by Britpacksuccubus
RATED: M for language and explicit sexual content

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forums::

Summary: When Bella becomes Edward's assistant and moves in across the street, what will happen when he takes in the view? And not just that of the skyline... AH, OOC, Lemons

Ok for this one... if you're not old enough to vote or buy porn, I'm going to need you to go on about your business from this point forward. *waits* All clear of the kidlets? Okay.

Jesus. That's pretty much all I have to say about this one. Bella is the executive assistant for VP Edward Masen. Despite their immediate attraction to one another, they maintain a purely professional working relationship within the office. That is, until Bella moves into the apartments across the street from the office and catches Mr. Masen peeping through her windows as she undresses.

At first she is mortified... but then, in true unpredictable IGO Bella fashion, she decides to make it worth his while. And wow. Damn. She's quite umm... talented. *fans self*

The Peepward/Exhibitionella antics continue with zero acknowledgment from either party. Until one of them breaks under the pressure. I won't say who or how in case anyone has not read this (are there still people like that out there? Yeah... I didn't think so) but, it's pretty goddamn hot.

Britpacksuccubus, besides having the chops to write a smuttacular fic, puts a tremendous amount of research and detail into every chapter. If you check out her profile you will see illustrations of every single item of clothing she's mentioned each chapter, floor plans and pics of Edward and Bella's residences, and she even went so far as to design a tattoo. I won't say which of them have it, but again... it's hot. Duh.

With each chapter, the intensity and heat between the characters escalates - and take it from me (I happen to have some insider info *cough*beta*cough*), you haven't seen anything yet.

Please check out these two awesome fics and let me know what you think. And if you're already a fan... let's talk.

See you next week kids... same Twi time, same Twi channel.

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Happy Friday, guys! I for one have been ready for Friday since ohh... about Monday.

So, I have a confession to make. Lately I've kind of been cheating on Edward and digging on Jasper. And not just any Jasper, not Jasper the kind of secondary good friend character (like in Just One of the Guys), but Jasper the love interest. And not with Alice either. No no, I'm talking about... Bellsper. *gasp!* I know, I know... but I can't help it. He's so damn sexy.

Previously I rec'd Son of a Preacher Man by LaViePastiche. Stangsperella is one of my favorite pairings - EVER - but now she is (as she has been threatening/promising from the beginning) shifting the story to an Edward/Bella pairing. And I am sad panda. So, I went in search of other Bellspers to assuage the ache.

He and She by AHelm
Rated: M for sexual situations, adult content and language

::FF.net::

Summary: Sometimes, you can't fight chemistry, no matter the situation. "I know all your favorite spots and tonight we will connect the dots." Jasper/Bella. AH.

The first thing that struck me about this fic was the present-tense used. Normally, I have a hard time with this tense, but in this case it fit so beautiful; it pulled me into the moment and made me feel as though I was experiencing it along with the characters.

The first chapter is sweet and poignant; I felt their love for one another in every caress and whisper. She purposefully keeps the character names from us until the very end - and the fact that it was a Bella/Jasper pairing simultaneously shocked the hell out of me and made perfect sense. I could see them together in this.

The next two chapters begin to illustrate their struggles as a couple - all is not as easy as it seems in the first scene.

The chapters are short but illustrative; each vignette a small, descriptive window into their relationship and the challenges they face - they say so much with so little.

So read it. Embrace the Bellsper. Come back and we'll talk and I'll further enable your new addiction. Do it. I need comrades in this new endeavor.

WW's Fic Rec Friday

*waves* Hi everyone! It's been awhile, sorry! Between work and Comic Con, I have been a very busy girl. In fact, so busy that I have not had time to read anything new this week. So, my wonderful sister, Tammy, graciously agreed to do a guest rec for me. I hope you're as excited as I am to read this fic!

Horizons by Megsly
RATED: PG-13
::ff.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Bella was thought to have died shortly after giving birth to Nessie, and Edward gave up shortly afterwards, knowning no better. After 17 years away, thinking her parents were be dead, Nessie returns to Forks to find the two people she thought she had lost.

I wasn’t a fan of FanFic until Wide Awake and after that I immersed myself in this new world and can’t seem to leave. Even though I was fascinated with the Bella/Edward Saga I wanted to read about Nessie. And I was sadly disappoint how almost every writer made her this immature, dependent on mommy and daddy irritating little girl.

Just as I was giving up I found Horizons, the story was simply different. What if Bella did not survive the change? What if Edward killed himself leaving his baby girl with his family after Bella died? I was instantly engaged in this story from just the description alone. I’ll never forget that night thinking I will read a chapter then head to the movies. Within the first chapter I felt the guilt and pain Nessie was feeling, the wound was so deep I wish I could comfort her (I know its fiction but it GOT ME!) and yes I cried.

With Rosalie and Emmett raising her in South America she was determined to meet Charlie and live in Forks to find some form of peace. There are some amazing moments when she visits her parents graves that simply breaks your heart and meeting Charlie for the first time. But at the same time there is a new mystery the Cullen family must resolve with the Volturi, Ben (You’ll have to read to figure out who Ben is!) and of course Jacob who has not been in Forks since the day Bella died.

...I've got to say I'm intrigued with this from Tammy's description, and I am so not usually interested in Nessie stories. I hope you'll give this story a chance (as I will) and report back to us your thoughts!

P.S. isn't that banner gorgeous? I am mesmerized by it. That's a perfect representation of Nessie.

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Happy Friday you guys! I, for one, could not be more relieved that this week is now drawing to a close. Before I get started on my recs, I have a few newsworthy items I'd like to call out.

First, a few of my Sisters and I will be attending Comic Con in a couple weeks! We could not be more excited to see Rob - I mean, the New Moon panel, but what put me into overdrive was the announcement yesterday that there will also be a Twilight Fanfiction panel held on Saturday the 25th! The panel is hosted by some of the fandom's most respected and effing awesome authors: AngstGoddess003, tby789, Manyafandom, Ninapolitan, psymom, amercnxidiot, bella c'ella luna, bethaboo, and lolashoes. I am positively giddy with anticipation.

On a related note, we are still accepting donations to help AngstGoddess003 with her Comic Con costs. She is going regardless, but as the TLYDF's blog funds don't extend to travel costs, she, like the rest of the authors, is funding the trip on her own. She's flying clear across the country to make it here to impart some fuckawesome fanfiction knowledge on us, so if you're able, help her and the blog out!

Secondly... I got the opportunity to write a guest review on the Perv Pack's Smut Shack for Confessions of a Nanny written by the absolutely lovely Melissa228. I was so flattered and excited to be asked! It just goes to show you that shameless stalking on the internets does pay off sometimes.

Ok, enough babbling... on with the recs!

Let Your Light Shine / A Life Extraordinary by Lolashoes
RATED: M for mature themes, language and sexual situations
::Ff.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: My version of the honeymoon after Bella joined Edward in the water - this is what we all wanted to read! Edward opens up and let's go of his fears. Lots of B/E LEMONS and fun couple banter. M RATED - some pretty graphic language and scenes.

Let Your Light Shine is a FANTASTIC take on the Breaking Dawn (failgasm of a) honeymoon. It is a HEAPING dose of lemony goodness; so hot and steamy that at times I needed to walk away from my computer and take a breather, but even through all the dirty sex and consuming passion, the love shines through. She writes their connection amazingly well, and, in my opinion, better than Stephanie Meyer. Bella and Edward actually *gasp* communicate with one another about their wants and needs - and not only sexually. They talk about what she wants to do with the rest of her life and even - SHOCK - about her change, and how she would like it to happen. And the way Lola writes this change is nothing short of amazing; poignant and passionate and everything it should have been in Breaking Dawn. I had tears in my eyes, and this cold hearted SOB is not a crier.

A Life Extraordinary is the sequel to Let Your Light Shine, detailing Bella's life with the Cullens after she is changed. I don't want to give away any of the details and spoil it for you, but the power Lola has constructed for Bella is fantastic; original and interesting. There are so many facets to it, and I am amazed at her ability to weave it into the storyline gracefully, making nothing obvious or cliched. The relationship between Bella and Edward is intense (probably a gross understatement there) and passionate, yet never loses the tenderness and love that can sometimes fall by the wayside when the heat gets turned up.

Lola just completed A Life Extraordinary - on a cliffie! - and promises to have its sequel out in the fall. I am already out of mind with anticipation, and I only just started reading these last Friday. However, she has promised us outtakes of LYLS and ALE to tide us over while we wait. Thank god.

Your homework for this week is to read these and report back to me. Extraordinary is truly an understatement when it comes to this fic.

WW's Fic Rec Friday

It's that time again, kids!

Real life was incrediby busy this week (so busy, in fact, that I didnt even manage to get my OWN fic updated), but I did manage to read two new stories that I am just dying to recommend to you! The things I do for you guys... *shakes head*

Clipped Wings and Inked Armor by hunterhunting
Rated: M for mature themes, sexual situations and language

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Haunted by her past Bella is broken and alone. Starting over, can she let go of the guilt that consumes her when she meets a beautiful tattoo artist or will his own personal demons destroy them first? Rated M for langage and lemons. AH/OOC

First of all, I'm a sucker for a guy with tattoos and piercings. Period. I'd begun one other Tatward fic recommended by another author and found it so incredibly juvenile that I had to stop. That was not the case with this one. Both characters are damaged; traumatic pasts have led them to isolate themselves in different ways. Bella has moved to a new city and has no friends. She craves human contact but shies away from it. Edward is surrounded by his best friends on a daily basis, but doesnt seem to let anyone close to him. They meet and the attraction is instantaneous. He is predatory without fully intending to be, she is awkward. And it is wonderful.

And he's gonna ink her. Majorly. In fact, he already has, but the big stuff is still to come. SWOON.

It's dark and a little angsty, but tempered with humor and a healthy dose of UST and further offset by the fact that - HOLY GOD - Edward is covered in tattoos and has viper bites and a tongue ring. The mental image is too much.

It's only 8 chapters at the moment, so it should be easy for you to catch up on it. Please do so we can discuss and swoon together. I'm serious.

The Coven by Phoenixhunter47
RATED: M for mature themes, sexual situations, etc.

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Just staring out at Yale, Bella Swan is determined to shed her normal cautious attitude and predictable ways to embrace adventure and change. That is until she learns of an elite group hidden within the walls of her new Ivy League home. Seduced by the unknown, Bella finds herself caught up in the danger that is The Coven.

This is one of my favorite fics. (Even though I'm going to be straight up and admit I'm like three chapters behind right now. RL is teh suck. I'm sorry.) If the prologue alone doesn't grip you and drag you into the confusing web of mystery that is The Coven, well then I say you were born without the curiosity gene. And perhaps a soul.

Bella starts at Yale and moves in with her dorm roommmate - a fantastically slutty and bitchy Lauren who promptly informs her that if there is a hair band on the outside of their door then Bella is not to come in. Surprise, it happens on the first night she's there. Bella takes refuge in the library and stumbles upon a leatherbound journal filled with cryptic entries. Intrigued, she takes it from the library.

And then things start to get weird. I don't want to say too much and give anything away, but after every chapter I'm left more confused than the previous - and I mean that in the best of ways. I am suspicious of every character that is introduced. The hints the author drops and the little nuances she leaves like bread crumbs are fabulous.

I'm hooked and (as far as I've read anyway) we haven't even been introduced to Edward yet. It is a gripping and relentless mystery that seriously leaves me whispering "what the fuck does that MEAN?!" every time I come to an end of a chapter. And then I drive myself crazy trying to figure it out.

So read it and tell me what's going on because I don't have an effing clue. Alls I know is that I loves it.

Picture Windows by nerac
RATED: M for mature themes and language

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Bella has the picture perfect life on the horizon, a week before her wedding, tragedy strikes. While recovering she meets a stranger in a hauntingly familiar way. Could he have been sent by her late fiance?

Ok, first of all... this is the first time I'm reading the summary. OH MY GOD THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING. *ahem*

So the other night, after a more horrendous than usual day at work, I was clicking around trying to find something to read. I saw the little blinky thing for this story and had seen the author around on the boards and heard how good her story was so I figured, what the hell, I need to take my mind off some stuff...

Man. So good. But right now? So sad. It starts out with Bella and Jasper together. (I am not a tragically canon, die hard B/E shipper, so this doesnt bother me. If it gives you a twitch, hold tight... it's not going to last for long. *sigh*) It is just before their wedding, and Bella heads out for her bridal shower with her best friends, Alice and Leah. (Leah, you say?! I know, right?)

Jasper heads off to meet his estranged friend Edward, but he's in an accident and ends up in a coma. This is where we are. I am sad panda, but please don't let this sad juncture in the story turn you off. The back story is sweet and poignant, and the nerd in me loves all the photography references. The author has assured me that there will be a HEA and that this is a B/E fic.

So read it. She writes it so well and I am so excited to see where the story heads.

That's it for this week, folks. Let me know your thoughts on these, pretty please? And also, if you have any recommendations, please feel free to comment or send an email to xwearingwordsx [at] gmail [dot] com.

Happy Fourth of July weekend to all our American readers!

WW's Fic Rec Friday

Well folks, another Friday is upon us... and again, I am running late. But like I said last week, better late than never.

Just one for this week, because it's so good it deserves its own post!

A Constant in the Darkness by Camoozle
Rated: M for mature themes, language and sexual situations
::FF.net::

Summary: Bella, suffering from an eating disorder, returns to Forks to care for her estranged father. She seeks comfort in Edward, an aspiring chef, who is having difficulty dealing with his own demons. AH, AU, OOC, B/E

Just from reading the summary I was intrigued. Dark Edward is an old hat by now, but a Darkward who cooks? Gimme. And a Bella with an eating disorder? Interesting and unique.

Once I delved into this fic, I was not disappointed. This is not your run of the mill, angsty teenager story. The characters are dark and terribly troubled; your heart aches for what they've been through, and as I told the author, you just want to wrap them in cotton wool and stick them in your pocket for safekeeping.

Bella is sarcastic and dry without coming off bitchy and brittle. Edward is dark and tortured, but so sweet and yearning underneath it all. Her character developments are flawless, and I feel so invested in them already.

It is only five chapters in, and I am chomping at the bit for more. It is such a great story with amazing potential, and is not getting the recognition it deserves. So, please check it out!

WW's Fic Rec Friday

A little late, but it's still Friday, right? On with the show...

Resident Geek by cdunbar
Rated: M for sexual situations, underage drinking and mature themes
::FF.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Geeky Edward thinks he has absolutely no shot with the popular, beautiful Bella. Is he right, or will she be one of the many girls who thinks geeks make for better lovers? M for language, sexuality and some underage drinking. A little OOC… okay, a lot OOC.

Edward is a nerdy Tech Support guy, Bella is a popular sorority sister. They meet at a party when she asks him to kiss her and pretend to be her boyfriend to protect her from another guy. One thing leads to another, and they begin dating. Edward teaches her how to play Dungeons and Dragons, and Bella pulls him out of his shell. At this point it's high on the cute and low on the angst, though there are some hints to future angsty times; Edward is completely inexperienced and very insecure, and Bella is hiding a secret about her past.

Cdunbar is clearly very knowledgeable in just about every facet of geekdom; each chapter is filled with sci-fi and comic book references. She is very kind to us non-geek speakers and explains each reference in an author's note at the end of the chapter.

A very cute story with depth that I highly recommend.

Wild Swan by Scarlett_Letters
Rated: M for mature themes, language and sexual situations
::FF.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Bella decides that it's time to find out who she really is and that means stepping out of her privileged life as a Cullen and taking flight on her own. Can different paths lead two people to the same destination?

Angst, angst, angst. Until I read this story, I didn't even know I liked angst. Or maybe it's not the angst I like, but the story itself. Bella and Edward's marriage has fallen apart and Bella wants out. After years of burying her pain and trying to be someone she is not, Bella finally finds the strength to leave Edward and take the time to discover herself.

It is heartbreaking, but Scarlett writes with such unflinching realism that you are drawn into the stories and the characters. There are glimmers of hope that you cling to. You are torn in your ingrained B/E shipping and the knowledge that they truly do not belong together at this point in their lives.

I find my heart aches after each chapter, but she has promised that we've now hit ground zero and are on the upswing. Thank god. I don't think my heart could have taken anymore. This is not light hearted reading, folks - but it is excellent.

And in a unique move, Scarlett has put up a companion blog to the story, Wild Swan Wandering. It is written from Bella's perspective, detailing her travels and pursuits on her mission to find herself. Scarlett even goes so far as to write comments from other characters, Rose, Alice, Emmett and even Seth. Such an awesome idea, and it ties into the story so well.

Son of a Preacher Man by LaViePastiche
Rated: M for language and sexual situations
::FF.net:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Jasper Hale, 21, is the son of a popular televangelist in Phoenix, and he couldn’t be any further from a church-going goody two shoes. His attitude towards work, attending class, or contributing positively to society is lackadaisical at best. He drinks, smokes, and has a penchant for deflowering teenage girls. Bella attends private school with Edward Cullen, a senior who she’s been in love with since 9th grade, when he moved to Phoenix. Too bad Edward is dating the most beautiful girl at St. Mary’s, and doesn’t even know Bella exists. But when Jasper sets his sights on Bella, Edward can’t help but take notice. Will he protect her from girlfriend Rosalie’s impious older brother? AH/AU/OOC and all that good stuff.

There's not much else I can add to that thorough summary except to say: HOLY HALE is this irreverent bad boy Jasper hot. Bella is feisty yet naive and unknowingly the biggest tease in teenage girl history. Jasper is not used to having the brakes put on him time and again, but yet he is drawn to Bella and cannot seem to bring himself to walk away and find someone more willing. Edward was completely oblivious to Bella until he heard Jasper was going out with her, and suddenly she is all he can think about.

Hmmm... wonder what's going to happen. It's an entertaining read with complex undertones and just enough heat to keep you on your toes and hoping for more.

Well kids, that's it for me this Friday. Have you read any of these recs? Love them? Hate them? Have something to add? Comment below and let us know, or send me an email at xwearingwordsx [at] gmail [dot] com.

WW's Fic Rec Friday

We're in the process of rolling out some fun new features for the Twilight Sisterhood blog, and I have the great pleasure of being the first!

Here at the Sisterhood, we're a little obsessed with fanfiction. We are constantly sharing and discussing stories with one another on the forum, and my sisters have graciously indulged my compulsion and allowed me to share my favorites with you. Every Friday I will be posting my favorite stories; some will undoubtedly be ones you know and love, but I hope to also be able to give some exposure to the lesser known stories out there.

So without further ado... here are this Friday's Fic Recs.

Just One of the Guys by SorceressCirce
RATED: M for mature themes, sexual situations and language.

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Scarred by events in her past, Bella relies heavily on her best friend and roommate, Jasper. When Jasper falls in love with a girl named Alice, Bella is excited for him but can’t help but wonder – where will she fit in? Canon pairings, AH/AU, OOC.

The summary gives the impression that this is a story centered around Bella's stuggle with accepting her best friend's new found romance, however that is only a small slice of this amazing fic. Bella, left broken after a traumatic experience, is unable to be close to anyone outside of her small circle of friends. Enter Edward, with his own set of problems. They are drawn to one another, but limited by their issues.

It is a beautiful story of the healing powers of love. And although it does have sad undertones, I find myself holding my breath with anticipation and giddy throughout each and every chapter.

The Screamers by KiyaRaven
RATED: M for mature themes, sexual situations and language.

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted:: ::Twilighted Forum::

Summary: Living on the streets is hard for Bella Swan, but not as hard as putting up with Edward Cullen when he drags her into his lifestyle of sex, drugs and Rock and Roll. Will they be able to help each other before they kill each other?

One word: hotlarious. I started reading this on a whim a few days ago after an incredibly awful week and it was the perfect choice. Bella is a ass-kicking homeless chick, Edward is a neurotic rock star with an addictive personality, and Alice is Alice... with an edge. The characterizations are brilliant and the entire story is full of lines that will make you laugh out loud.

And Rob makes an appearance.

It's funny and sexy and endearing. If you're having a bad day, or are just in the mood for a laugh, I definitely recommend this one.

Voice Inside My Head by Miztrezboo
RATED: M for sexual situations and language.

::FF.net:: ::Twilighted::

Summary: Bella's always believed in true love, fate, destiny & all that jazz. After returning from a self imposed exile, all roads soon lead to one conclusion. Will he see her for more than a best friend? Or will another reveal a side long forgotten?AH/AU B/Em B/E

Bella grew up with her best friends, Edward and Emmett. She has always been in love with an oblivious Edward while Emmett has always harbored feelings for the preoccupied Bella. When the pressure gets to be too much, she runs away to Europe to pursue her career. Upon returning from her self-imposed exile she suddenly finds herself the object of both her best friends' attentions. Who will she choose? Who deserves her more?

This is the only love triangle I've ever read in which I'd be ok with either choice. While Edward pisses me off... he's still Edward, and she's still Bella. No brainer. But this Emmett is adorable and sweet and I feel in some ways deserves Bella so much more than Edward.

Miztrezboo utilizes flashbacks woven seamlessly through each chapter to tell the stories of the three friends and how they got to the place they're in. It is a wonderfully written story that at times has me laughing and giddy and at others has me wanting to chuck my computer at the wall in frustration.

So those are this week's recommendations. Have you read them? If not, I hope I've inspired you to check them out at the very least.
